Revisiting a Book

Have you ever read a book and just fell head over heels in love with it after a reading only the first sentence? And then a few years have past and you haven't even touched what once had you up all night long, until one day after browsing your shelves your eyes land on the now dusty book(s) that most likely are tattered and worn from all the love you once had for it and you feel a little ping in your chest of what it was once like when you adored the novel to bits?

Well, that just recently happened to me. I was around the age of 12 when I first discovered the book "Vampire Academy" by the ever so gorgeous Richelle Mead. My little preteen eyes held interest the moment they laid on the cover in the recommended section of an old Twilight magazine (yes, I had indeed been one of those twi-hards back in the day!) I loved it. Even more so than the Twilight series I was obsessed with at the time. I even got my friend hooked and even to this day, the Vampire Academy series is still her favorite books of all time. If you ever want to talk about Dimitri for hours on end with someone, go to her.

I've spent that last few days reading Vampire Academy and falling in love with it all over again like it was the first time. I felt an abundant amount of nostalgic feelings I once held for this novel. I missed the world so much and I didn't even know it. I'd forgotten how much I loved Rose's snarky remarks and bad-ass demeanor. She was defiantly someone I had wanted to be like when I was older. And most of all I missed Rose and Lissa's friendship. I mean, come on, they're totally friendship goals! Also, I did miss Rose's forbidden attraction towards her mentor, Dimitri.

One thing I did notice after rereading VA was how dark some of its material really was. Being almost 13 at the time, I never fully understood some of the things that Lissa was going through with her depression and it had only hit me until  years later at the age of 20 of how real the subject of mental health is in today's society. I do have to say, I might have been a little too young for this series, but I can definitely tell you, I do not regret it whatsoever.

I don't know if it's because I have an old printing of the book or what, but I also took notice on a handful of spelling errors all throughout while I was reading. I'm not one to be picky when it comes to grammar and spelling mistakes, but I did find it a little rewarding when I'd pick them out as I read. Does anyone else feel like that when they find a word spelling incorrectly? I once found a misspelling in my old Marine Biology textbook in High School. Instead of Biology, it said Bioolgy. And on the first page too!!
One of the misspellings I found!

All in all, I'm happy to have reread the book and can not wait to continue on reading the rest of the series.. and well finish it since I've never gotten around to reading the last 2 novels!

Have any of you read a book you once loved years ago?

An introduction is in order!

Hello, all! Welcome to my humble abode that is this blog!

I've been wanting to start one for years now, but I've never had the slightest idea of what I'd write about and I tend to chicken out on things that I say I'm going to do. This time, however, I just so happened to finally kick myself in the butt hard enough to actually do it, but anyway, you all may be wondering what this blog will be about (or maybe you aren't, but let's pretend you do!) I have an enormous love for books, or well, it's an obsession with books, honestly. I actually have a Bookstagram (an Instagram account dedicated to everything book related if you don't know) where I post photos of my latest book purchases, TBR list of the month, what I'm currently reading, etc and I've been wanting to go more in depth with my thoughts on the books that I read and what's a better way to do just that than to form a blog! So, here I am!

Photos have been taken from my Instagram account, chaptersandink!

I guess I should say a few things about myself! Well, first off, my name is Holly! I'm currently 20-years-old, living on the East Coast of the U.S. In New Jersey to be percise. Some of you may know me from my Bookstagram account that has the same name as this blog! Chapters and Ink was created on Instagram a few days before Christmas last December on a spontaneous inspiration from all the other bookstagrammers that I had been following for a few months previous. Starting a bookstagram has got to be one of the best things I've ever done this year. I've read so many fantastic books, stumbled upon authors I've never known and found the most kind and inspiring people! I really don't know what I'd be doing with my life if I haven't discovered the book community!

Feel free to browse my Bookstagram account, chaptersandink! Maybe even give it a little follow if you think it's worthy.

Hopefully, I won't make this blog too dull for everyone!!
